What are those non-printing characters?

Click the little pilcrow (¶) on Word’s Home ribbon to see all the behind-the-scenes formatting marks that make documents look good. But what are those marks? See the table for a list.

For more tips on viewing non-printing characters, look in Section 9 of the book.
In some versions of Word, these symbols are grey or black.

To hide the symbols again, click the pilcrow button (¶) on the Home ribbon once more.
